'Daredevil' Disney Plus Series Is A Continuation Of The Netflix Show

The Man Without Fear returns

A brand-new Daredevil series is in the works at Disney Plus, and it sounds like it'll pick up where the Netflix series left off.

Variety reports that Covert Affairs creators Matt Corman and Chris Ord are attached to write and executive produce the new series , which will see Charlie Cox reprise his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil.

Cox originally played the crimefighting lawyer in Netflix's excellent Daredevil for three seasons. While technically part of the MCU, the "street-level" Netflix Marvel shows never really properly referenced the events of the movies.

That's why fans were so alarmed when Daredevil ended after an excellent third series and the rights to the character ended back up with Disney: There were fears Charlie Cox would be replaced in the role in favour of a complete reboot.

Fortunately, it seems this is not the case. Cox made his official MCU debut as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home late last year, just weeks after Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin popped up as the main villain of Hawkeye.

With the characters fully integrated into the MCU (and the Netflix shows now moved over to Disney Plus), fans hoped it would only be a matter of time until a new Daredevil series was announced.

Sure enough, it looks like that's exactly what we're getting. Disney has yet to officially confirm the news, and it sounds like the project is still in early development, but this undeniably hugely exciting for fans of the Netflix series. I can't imagine a Disney Plus incarnation of Daredevil will be anything like as gritty as the Netflix series was, of course, but more Charlie Cox as The Man Without Fear is absolutely a Very Good Thing Indeed.

It's likely Murdock will pop up in other MCU projects before his own series launches. Most likely we'll see him in She Hulk: Attorney At Law, or Echo, which will pick up after the events of Hawkeye and resolve that shocker of a Kingpin cliffhanger.
