CD Projekt RED is in the midst of cooking something up, but fans have been warned to temper their expectations.
This all began on 1 September when the studio posted a "message for N.U.S.A. citizens” with attention drawn to the 4 September.
“Our great nation is once again facing a mounting cybersecurity threat - from those who hide in the shadows, too cowardly to publicly proclaim their beliefs, who are viciously determined to tear down our flag and the values it upholds,” the message began.
“I will not accept this, and I know you won’t either. The N.U.S.A. is seeking brave netrunners to join our efforts and overcome this grave threat. Our brave agents work tirelessly to keep our country secure, maintain its dominance, and defend it from those so eager to undermine it,” it continued.

“Now you can join us in our fight for freedom. I personally welcome all who believe they have what it takes. Take our recruitment test. Prove yourself. Serve the N.U.S.A.”
You can perhaps see why fans read this and assumed that something major was on the way.
Some took this to mean that a new game plus mode might be coming to Cyberpunk 2077, while others understood it to be a multiplayer mode tease.
Other theories suggested the message might pertain to new quests or even a new DLC.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear to be any of those things.
“Just FYI, this isn’t any sort of announcement or reveal about new content coming to the game,” CD Projekt RED followed up with after several days of speculation.
“It’s part of an activity tied to the Phantom Liberty anniversary we’re celebrating this month.”
Ah, I see.

Phantom Liberty will celebrate its two-year anniversary on 26 September and honestly, I can’t believe it’s been out for two years. Time sure has flown.
If no new content is coming to the game, you still have to wonder what this activity might be.
I’d love to say that fans are finding the whole affair rather amusing but, uh, they’re pretty mad.
“Don’t get our hopes up anymore… we’d like a lot more content, and if you don’t intend to give it to us, at least don’t get our hopes up,” wrote one Twitter/X user.

“The problem is u actually should clarify what the post means before posting anything lmao….this gets fans excited and hopeful for something fresh and new, i feel like the community managers don’t know what the hell their doing I would honestly make another dlc for this game,” added another.
Oof.
I’d argue that Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the fandoms that has it best when it comes to post-launch content but each to their own.
