'Cyberpunk 2077' Studio And Other Devs Condemn Russia's Invasion Of Ukraine

Several studios have been speaking up in solidarity with Ukraine, including the Polish dev teams CD Projekt Red and 11 Bit Studios.

As the conflict continues between Russia and Ukraine, many individuals and wider organisations have been speaking up to give their support to the victims, and show solidarity with the citizens who are being affected. This includes a number of game development studios, including the likes of CD Projekt Red - the team behind Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3.

As reported by Kotaku, on Twitter last week, the Poland-based studio wrote that they were “shocked and outraged” to hear about the invasion, and that they would be making a 1 million Polish zloty (about £177,600) donation in support of the victims to Polska Akcja Humanitarna - a humanitarian group in Poland.

“The recent invasion on Ukraine, our friends and neighbours, left us shocked and outraged,” they tweeted. “We cannot remain indifferent in the face of such injustice and we ask everybody to join in and help in any way you can. Together we can make a huge difference!”

Another dev team who have spoken up is 11 Bit Studios, the studio behind the anti-war game This War of Mine. They also released a statement last week condemning Russia’s actions with the hashtag “F**kTheWar”, announcing that all the profits earned from This War of Mine until 3 March will be donated to the Ukrainian Red Cross.

“As a Polish game studio and creators of the globally recognised anti-war game, This War of Mine - one that directly speaks about the suffering and misery of civilians who are affected by war - we’d like to herby announce our company statement: we stand against the Russian invasion of Ukraine,” they wrote. “Let this message resonate with everything you know about this war and how war kills people, devastates their lives and homes. Let us - players and developers together - do everything we can to support victims of war in Ukraine.”

11 Bit Studios aren’t the only ones donating to the Ukrainian Red Cross - the CEO and founder of the indie publisher Crytivo, Alex Koshelkov, announced that all the profits earned through their store to the end of February and throughout March would be donated, and that all the company’s Ukrainian employees are being provided with paid leave until they can get themselves to safety.

If you want to help out yourself, supporting these game studios is one way to do so. Otherwise, you can donate directly to the British Red Cross’ Ukraine Crisis Appeal here
