Sony PlayStation has cancelled a PlayStation 6 exclusive after it walked away from the project, and it has now fallen into the hands of Xbox, making it a Microsoft first-party exclusive.
It’s been a rough few weeks for Sony PlayStation following its decision to end production of physical media as of January 2028, as it prepares for an all-digital generation for the PS6. It is fair to say that the news went down like a lead balloon with even the most passionate and loyal PlayStation fans.
Now, it’s arguably not helped its cause after Sony PlayStation has cancelled a highly anticipated project in collaboration with Hideo Kojima’s studio, Kojima Productions, on the video game Physint.
As reported in September 2025, Physint was announced as a PlayStation 6 exclusive, around the same time as when Xbox had an upcoming Kojima Productions project of its own with OD. Now, Microsoft is enjoying the fruits of Hideo Kojima’s labour, the creator of Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding, because Xbox now has publishing rights for both OD and Physint.
PlayStation announces it’s walked away from Kojima’s Physint
In a statement announcing that Sony PlayStation is walking away from Physint, the company said on X (formerly Twitter): After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to step away from collaborating with Kojima Productions on its project Physint. We continue to have great admiration for Hideo Kojima's vision for the game.

“Our relationship remains strong after three decades of industry-leading, genre-defining creative cooperation, and we look forward to continued close collaboration with Hideo Kojima and his award-winning independent studio in the future.”

Of course, there was no mention of Xbox in the tweet, which would have been surprising if it had. However, the news of Microsoft now being partnered with Kojima Productions for Physint was detailed in a short statement on the developer's official website.
“Today, we are excited to confirm that our journey with Physint continues with Asha and the team at Xbox,” announced Kojima Productions.
“Xbox understands and shares our bold creative vision, and this expands our relationship with Xbox beyond OD. As we move forward with the development of Physint, we remain committed to redefining the action-espionage genre for players around the world.”
Do Physint and OD have release dates?
At the moment, no. It might be safe to assume that both could end up being new-gen titles. As for which platforms they will arrive on, it’s a safe assumption to make that Physint and OD will absolutely release on PC and Xbox, but as for PlayStation 6, that remains up in the air as of right now.
As always, we’ll keep you posted when we hear of any further developments regarding Physint and OD.
