Cyberpunk 2 may not be available to millions of players, at least that’s what fans are speculating.
The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 was announced yesterday to have entered pre-production at CD Projekt Red, under the current title of “Cyberpunk 2”.
Originally titled by the internal codename Project Orion, Cyberpunk 2 is still years away from being released.

Cyberpunk 2077 entered pre-production in 2016, after a few years in the conceptual phase following the release of The Witcher 2, and didn’t release until 2020.
However, it should be noted that development on that game was fairly rushed, and the game received a total of three delays throughout 2020.
We all know how that turned out, of course.
Riddled with bugs, technical issues, and design flaws, Cyberpunk 2077’s launch is often considered one of the most catastrophic game launches in history.

It was rough enough that it even got delisted from the PlayStation Store due to the amount of refund requests.
Considering the game also launched on last-gen consoles PS4 and Xbox One, it was evident that those systems couldn’t keep up with the scope of the game.
Now, Cyberpunk 2077 fans are hoping CD Projekt Red won’t repeat the same mistake, and focus on the next-gen consoles for Cyberpunk 2, which should likely be in development for at least five years.
“I hope they skip this gen and focus on next-gen consoles,” wrote one comment on Reddit. “We don't want a repeat of 2077. We don't want a game that comes out in 2030 trying to run on consoles from 2020.”

"I am sure they learned that from their previous mistake of trying to cater to the PS4/XB1," wrote another comment.
We don’t know yet when the next generation of consoles will launch, but it’s certainly possible we’ll get the PS6 and whatever the next Xbox is called by then.
If Cyberpunk 2 aims to release in 2030, it’ll likely be optimised for those systems instead of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
This could potentially leave millions unable to play the sequel. The PS5 has allegedly sold over 70 million units, and the Xbox Series X/S around 32 million units.

Hopefully CD Projekt Red does what it believes is best to avoid another disastrous launch like what happened with Cyberpunk 2077.
