Cyberpunk 2077 sequel release window already being roasted by fans

It’s gonna be a long wait

Cyberpunk 2077 fans are already roasting its potential release window for its sequel, which could keep us waiting for many more years to come.

Developers of The Witcher series, CD Projekt RED, first announced Cyberpunk 2077 in 2012 and it was eventually released in 2020 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, to say that Cyberpunk 2077 launched in a bit of a mess, would be an understatement.

It would take a further two or three years for CD Projekt RED to fix Cyberpunk 2077, but it's fair to say that the studio eventually delivered, and then some with a host of improvements and features.

In October 2022, CD Projekt RED announced the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, but to this day, at least officially, details on the game remain pretty much non-existent.

Earlier this week, as detailed in a CD Projekt earnings call, it was revealed that the sequel, now called Cyberpunk 2 (I doubt that will be its final name), has entered pre-production.

At the time of writing, Cyberpunk 2 does not have a release date but judging by Cyberpunk 2077’s eight year development cycle, not to mention the time it had taken to finish the game post-launch, we could be waiting a while for its arrival.

“See you guys in 10 years, minimum,” said Redditor Vivid_Big2595.

“Can't wait to see what false advertising they manage to hype fans up with this over the next ten years,” exclaimed UnchartedFields.

“I don’t think many people will follow its marketing anymore,” replied a distrustful Timely_Specific4004.

To be fair, you can't blame gamers for losing some trust with CDPR, despite the impressive revival of Cyberpunk 2077. Let’s just hope that the studio has learned from past mistakes.

As always, we’ll keep you posted when we learn more about the development progress of Cyberpunk 2.

In the meantime, you can play Cyberpunk 2077 on PC, PlayStation and Xbox, then on Nintendo Switch 2 when it launches on 5 June 2025.
