Cyberpunk 2077 sequel confirms multiple cities to explore

The Windy City is mighty pretty

This is one way to get us hyped.

Let’s be honest though, first and foremost; Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel is likely many years away from launch.

CD Projekt RED is currently developing The Witcher IV and even that game isn’t set to launch for several years.

It’s with that in mind that it could be 2027 and beyond before Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel, Project Orion, becomes the studio’s main focus.

And, of course, CD Projekt RED isn’t going to want to rush the game.

Developers worked so incredibly hard to turn Cyberpunk 2077’s fortunes around; there’s no way that the studio is going to risk undoing that by launching another half-baked game.

What we do know is that Project Orion is in pre-production with a small team beavering away on the highly anticipated project.

Little else has come to light, until now. It’s just been teased that the sequel will finally allow us to explore beyond Night City.

The Witcher IV looks spectacular, even if we have only seen a cinematic.

As reported by CD-Action, this tidbit of information comes from Mike Pondsmith who created the Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop RPG.

If you didn’t know, Cyberpunk 2077 is actually based on the board game, so Pondsmith has closely collaborated with CDPR over the years on the adaptation of his world.

In a talk at the conference Digital Dragons, Pondsmith made reference to Project Orion explaining that players will be able to explore different cities, including one which he described as “Chicago gone wrong”.

“There's another city we visit - Night City is still there,” Pondsmith explained. “I remember looking at it and thinking, ‘Yeah, I get the vibe you're going for and it works; it doesn't feel like Blade Runner, it's more like Chicago gone wrong.’"

Interesting. I also find it a tad funny that Pondsmith added, “I don’t know when to shut up.”

Yeah, I have a feeling CD Projekt RED isn’t going to be too thrilled with this.

Fans have theorised for quite some time that Chicago could surface as the series’ next key location, with many guessing that we’ll skip forwards in time to 2080.

That is just speculation though.

Still, at least we have a legitimate little tease to tide us over now until CD Projekt RED is ready to reveal more.
