Cyberpunk 2077 players have just found out about an interesting piece of lore that CDPR snuck in ages ago.

Despite its very rocky launch (and that’s putting it mildly), developers CD Projekt RED worked tirelessly to correct a lot of wrongs and now Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the best sci-fi RPGs in recent years. Well, at least on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Check out the Cyberpunk 2077 next-gen launch trailer below!

“Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world, action-adventure RPG set in the dark future of Night City - a dangerous megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour, and ceaseless body modification,” reads the synopsis of the game.

With a map as large and dense as Night City, it makes sense that there are loads of secrets waiting to be discovered and intriguing lore yet to be unearthed, such as this interesting little piece shared on Reddit.

“What are those structures beside the spaceport?” asked axiljan. “I took this image from a beach in Pacifica.”

“The structure to the right, according to the map, are the launch pads for the Orbital Air spaceport,” they continued. “What are those five structures in the centre and is there lore for it?

As expected, the Reddit thread was eager to provide all the much-needed answers.

“Barrages against the AI-controlled self-replicating sea mines that make moving by boat near impossible unless you have a whole military fleet escorting you,” explained ledocteur7.

“The mines were made to self-replicate by Corpo’s and have AI on board,” replied LeakyOwl, expanding on the lore.

“The AI reasoned that the only way to guarantee no enemy shipping would get passed flying an allied or neutral flag was to sink it all,” they added. “Sea travel is basically impossible without an entire flotilla, this is all on a shard you find in the game.”

So, there you have it, if you ever wondered what those structures are over in the distance of Night City, now you know.

Cyberpunk 2077 and its Phantom Liberty expansion are out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
