A new tease for Cyberpunk 2 has seemingly confirmed that there won’t be a third person mode. At least, not yet.

One big criticism of Cyberpunk 2077 back in 2020 was that while the game offered you a huge amount of freedom in the character creator, the lack of third-person view and cutscenes meant you had very few chances to actually see your character.

There was hope that this might have been alleviated for the sequel, currently only titled Cyberpunk 2 for the time being, but a new tease from a developer at CD Projekt Red seems to have dashed those hopes.

Cyberpunk 2 creative director Igor Sarzynski recently shared some shots from the development of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty over on BlueSky, showing some scenes from the game presented in third-person view.

“Stumbled upon some old pics i shot during phantom liberty development,” Sarzynski shared. “Gotta admit setting up cutscenes in this game would be extremely pleasant (coz everything looks mindblowingly amazing) but in the end i value our uninterrupted immersion more.”

It sounds like this could mean the same will apply to Cyberpunk 2, with first-person cutscenes taking importance over third person ones. However, never say never, and with the game still being quite early in development, things are subject to change.

While Cyberpunk 2077 had a few cutscenes that were in third-person, allowing you to see your character, a majority of your time was spent viewing Night City through V’s eyes. Great for immersion, but a shame when you spend so long on making your own character.

Cyberpunk 2077 Fans Are Divided On Sequel's First Person Cutscenes

Some fans who enjoyed the immersion with Cyberpunk 2077’s first-person camera were happy to hear this.

“Great news. I loved being able to ‘act’ the cutscenes: by having V make eye contact, look away, walk around. So much more engaging than a movie that takes away player control,” reads one comment on Reddit.

“Jamming my thumbstick up and down during the Samurai gig so I can pretend I'm headbanging is so much fun. I wish we could have played a full set,” reads another comment.

However, some fans were also disappointed upon hearing that the sequel could potentially downplay third-person view.

“Tons of customization from devs and modders, clothes, hairs, body mods,” reads a comment in the same thread. “And only you can see them from first person, mirror or photo mode. I wish there would be two modes like they are in RDR 2 or GTA.”

If third-person mode does end up coming to Cyberpunk 2, hopefully the results will be less nightmarish than this third-person mod for Cyberpunk 2077.
