Just when you thought that the popular fantasy RPG, Crimson Desert, couldn't get any better, along comes an update that fans have been begging for.
Released early this year, despite its gameplay trailers looking very promising since its reveal in 2019, few could have predicted the success that Crimson Desert would become. It’s truly been one of the biggest success stories of 2026, selling over 5 million copies in April, with that number no doubt growing since then.
Like most video games, very few are released in a perfect state, and Pearl Abyss’ Crimson Desert was no exception, despite already being a very fun game. Since its launch, the developers have worked tirelessly to address as much fan feedback as possible, deploying a plethora of content updates and improvements.
The latest update for Crimson Desert is now available across all platforms with Patch Version 1.09.00. This update not only adds 30 new pets to the game, improvements to seed planting, new combat moves, as well as the standard stability fixes and more, but it also brings the option to remap the controls.
Controller remapping can be an absolute game-changer for many, especially for those who may not own a pro controller, a popular feature of the luxury accessories. Being able to remap controls in-game adds a new layer of accessibility, plus it will reduce the chances of poor muscle memory pressing the wrong buttons.

“Game Of The Year award is going to Crimson Desert,” declared NotTimRaft, replying to the tweet detailing the latest update. “The updates are consistent, and the addition of new content is how to keep the players playing. I have barely scratched the surface of the game, and I’ve put in many hours.”

Scrolling through the social media feed, there are tons of other fan requests, from additional languages, new outfits, gameplay features and so forth. Judging by Pearl Abyss’ actions up to now, I’d be very surprised if some of those requests aren't addressed in upcoming updates.
“Crimson Desert is by no means a perfect game. It’s an amalgamation of perhaps slightly too many ideas, and that makes for a weirdly paced experience that demands a lot of the player without offering much in the way of help,” said GAMINGbible’s Kate, in her review.
“And yet, it left me in awe more times than anything else I’ve played in recent memory with its dazzling open-world. Crimson Desert may not be the best game you'll ever play, but it’ll certainly be up there as perhaps the most memorable.”
Crimson Desert is out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
