Crimson Desert developers have confirmed that a DLC expansion is on the way and will be a “day one purchase” for its legion of fans.
I think most of us had an inkling that the hot new fantasy RPG of 2026, Crimson Desert, could be a good game, but I doubt few would have predicted the huge success it has become and continues to be. In our review of Crimson Desert, we scored it an “Excellent” 8/10.
Crimson Desert, while a bit janky at launch, has been overall well-received from critics and fans alike. What’s more, the indie developers at Pearl Abyss work tirelessly to address fan feedback to improve the game. So, if you never quite clicked with the game at launch, for whatever reason, it might be worth dipping your toes back into Pywel to see if any of your issues have been fixed.
On 15 April 2026, the Crimson Desert social media channels announced that the game had sold over five million copies across all platforms, and a month on from that announcement, logically, that number has likely increased by some margin.
As reported by IGN, a recent financial call for Pearl Abyss revealed that Crimson Desert has so far made a whopping $178.8 million, and to capitalise on that success, a new DLC expansion (or expansions) was teased.

“New Pipelines and Growth Strategy Crimson Desert will continue to focus on enhancing user satisfaction and driving new sales through continuous updates, while expanding its market presence through platform expansion,” said Pearl Abyss.
“In addition, we are currently exploring various ways to broaden the game to the next level, including DLC. We will share the details once the concrete plans are set.”
It’s not been teased what exactly that DLC might be, but hopefully, it could be new story content and with a bit of luck, might bring new areas to the world of Pywel.
“DLC is a day one purchase for me,” declared Redditor diabetusbetus.
“I will literally buy every DLC for this game, no matter how small, no matter what the price,” exclaimed unknown0246. “The game and engine are a masterpiece in my eyes, and I just want more and more to do in it.”
“I hope they put more dungeons in. This game has a lack of indoor adventure areas. Dark, dank, haunted with the undead, more of that,” suggested meatball402.
“If they supported mod tools, this game could be the next Skyrim,” said a hopeful EvilKasper.
Crimson Desert is out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
