Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order may have wound me up with its needlessly confusing maps, but I’ve still been counting down the days to its sequel - and that countdown is officially on. We now know that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is coming in 2023.

The new-gen exclusive was confirmed at this week’s Star Wars Celebration. In case you missed it, Respawn Entertainment treated us to the first teaser trailer and damn, does it look good. It may only be a cinematic trailer but it certainly suggests a darker journey for Cal Kestis. A key focus of the trailer is a mysterious figure in a bacta tank yet after just a few days, fans already think they’ve worked out the identity of the unknown character.

Check out the mysterious figure in action in the brand new Star Wars Jedi: Survivor trailer below.

To recap, bacta tanks are used in the Star Wars universe to accelerate healing. Luke Skywalker used one back in The Empire Strikes Back to recover from the Wampa attack, and Boba Fett was seen regularly using one throughout The Book of Boba Fett. Fans believe that the healing figure in the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor trailer is Starkiller.

If you’re thinking, who? Let me enlighten you. Born Galen Marek, the force-sensitive Starkiller was taken by Darth Vader during the Galactic Empire era. After Marek’s Jedi parents were both murdered, Vader kidnapped the child to raise as his apprentice and personal assassin. After years of service, Starkiller was eventually betrayed by Vader and left for dead.

Technically, the character isn’t canon as Starkiller belongs to the Star Wars Legends expanded universe, but that’s not to say that another version of Starkiller couldn’t be made to exist in the main Star Wars timeline. The story fits with what we see in the trailer. Starkiller could be using the bacta tank to heal from Vader’s betrayal, and the game’s creators have already teased that Cal will be forced to make unsavoury alliances. You’ve got to admit, it’s convincing.
