Brendan Fraser wins Best Actor Oscar, internet explodes with joy

Brendan Fraser just won his first ever Oscar for his performance in The Whale, and fans everywhere are thrilled.

There are few actors in this world more deserving of love and joy than Brendan Fraser, and the internet is currently united in celebration of the actor’s big win at the 2023 Academy Awards.

Fraser has officially won Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in Darren Aronofsky’s psychological drama The Whale. In the film, Fraser plays Charlie - a reclusive 600-pound middle-aged man trying to reconnect with his 17-year-old daughter Ellie (portrayed by Stranger Things star Sadie Sink). This marks the actor’s first ever win at The Oscars.

Take a look at Brendan Fraser accepting his award below.

“So this is what the multiverse looks like,” Fraser said in his emotional acceptance speech. “My goodness. I thank the Academy for this honour, and for our studio A24 for making such a bold film, and I’m grateful to Darren Aronofsky for throwing me a creative lifeline and hauling me aboard the good ship The Whale.”

Over on Twitter, fans are thrilled that Fraser has been given the recognition that he’s always deserved: “Brendan Fraser winning Best Actor was deserved[,] love this man,” tweeted @stibbzy8. “I may be tired, but I'm never too tired to ignore that my personal king and idol Brendan Fraser has finally been recognised as what he is, *THE* Best Actor. Long overdue for even a nomination, he's more than earned the success he's had these last two years,” wrote @NuggetJrJr. “Me and my friend’s reaction to Brendan Fraser winning Best Actor. Mr. Fraser, if you see this, we rooted for you the whole time. You deserve this and more, king. Congratulations,” @tinkerbri1212 posted, alongside a video of themselves and a friend cheering for Fraser when he won.

Fraser has had a phenomenal career comeback in recent years, so winning an Oscar is the icing on the cake - hopefully it’ll be the first of many more to come.
