Brendan Fraser admits he's been 'picky' about roles since Oscar win

Oscar winner Brendan Fraser is being very 'picky' about which roles he's going to take on next.

Brendan Fraser, everyone’s wholesome internet favourite, is having quite the year. Just a few months ago, Fraser won a coveted Academy Award - among the highest honours in acting - for his stellar performance in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale.

It’s exactly what many suspected would happen. It’s the actors first win at the Oscars but ever since The Whale debuted on the film festival circuit, Fraser was constantly subject to standing ovations for his performance. It led to what the internet deems the Brenaissance. Already, the actor has teased that he’d be open to working on a fourth instalment in The Mummy franchise - something we’d all love to see - but surprisingly, the actor’s schedule is pretty open following his Oscar win.

Take a look at the moment Brendan Fraser accepted his award below.

Typically, Oscar winners are inundated with offers of new roles following a win and that is actually the case for Fraser. As reported by CinemaBlend though, the actor is purposefully being very ‘picky’ about what he says yes to. It turns out the current writers strike is also affecting Fraser’s plans and the availability of projects.

In an interview with People, the actor said, “I read the trades the other day. Apparently, I’m going to have to pick up a picket sign. It might be a long summer. At the moment, I don’t have anything - I’m being really picky right now.” If you didn’t know, the Writers Guild of America is currently on strike, campaigning for better pay. As such, a huge number of productions have temporarily ceased filming.

If you thought a writer's job was done when the script was finished, you thought wrong. Every production will also have writers on set to assist with rewrites and adjustments required during filming. Some series, like Andor, have continued filming despite not having a writer on set - which is worrying some fans. Fraser is obviously doing the right thing though, waiting until the dispute is sorted before selecting the best roles available.
