BioShock Infinite has just had a massive unofficial remaster, and it might just be the reason you need to replay the 2013 classic.
With development on BioShock 4 seemingly in limbo at the moment, along with Ken Levine’s Judas not having any recent updates, it’s beginning to feel like we may never get another game that scratches that itch.
At least we can replay the original trilogy on modern systems for the time being, and this new remaster mod for BioShock Infinite might be the best thing for fans of the series to check out this week.
BSI HD Texture Project is a new mod from creator Tilrr which overhauls every texture in BioShock Infinite, including both episodes of the Burial At Sea expansion.

More specifically, the mod overhauls roughly 11,000 textures that are in the game, with a large number of those textures being upscaled using “the most powerful upscaler available” to double their original resolution.
Another roughly 500 textures were also done by hand, and Tilrr says “the results are actually amazing”. They also claim it “brings the game’s visuals to be on par with something like Wolfenstein 2”.
The mod also upscales the various effects, emissives and specular effects, which greatly improves lighting and volumetrics. On the whole, it should mean BioShock Infinite becomes a lot more modern looking.
Overall, the mod’s file size is around 46GB in total if you download all the files. However, Tilrr has split up the files into multiple downloads, not only to get around the limit on Nexus Mods, but to also make it easier for fans to acquire.

Considering the market for 4K gaming was still quite tiny in 2013, it means that a lot of the textures and effects in BioShock Infinite (as well as other games of the time) were not intended to be seen on high-resolution displays. I mean, in 2013 even I was still gaming on a 720p monitor.
Looking at the sample images on the website, it definitely makes BioShock Infinite’s Columbia look a lot crisper. While it’s still far off from looking like a new game released in 2025, it should be enough of a reason to revisit the game again if you haven’t picked it up in a while.
You can download BSI HD Texture Project from Nexus Mods now.
Obviously, you can only play this mod with the PC version of the game, so be sure that your machine is powerful enough to run it. You'll need beefier specs than the ones needed to run the base version of BioShock Infinite, and given that it's mostly texture upscales, you'll probably need more RAM and VRAM than what is recommended.
