BioShock 4 can wait, we’ve just seen the next best thing

Steampunk adventures await

Okay, the headline to this article might be a bit much, we really do want BioShock 4, don’t get it twisted, however, it’s such a long wait, we’ve been looking elsewhere for a fix.

We want the vibes we got from the original BioShock outing - the crumbling technology, the cursed utopian society.

Welcome to Brightville looks like it has all the BioShock vibes we need

Perhaps we’ll get that from Welcome to Brightville, an adventure game that mixes steampunk with magic.

In this immersive sim, you play an automaton guardian, unravelling the mysteries of Brightville.

From what we’ve seen on the Steam page, the screenshots and trailer make this a wonderful experience for those seeking the same feeling we got from BioShock.

There are plenty of dank corridors, neon lighting oozing from the shadows, and sinister enemies intent on hunting you down.

It seems Brightville is in the clutches of AI, and as the only automaton who hasn’t been taken over, it’s up to you to free the populace.

Combining magic and technology, I imagine that there will be various ways to navigate problems, solve puzzles, and combat said enemies.

Being able to balance action gameplay with more stealthy approaches will open up various ways to experience this adventure, and appeal to a range of people.

Also, getting lost in this city feels like a dream scenario, as it’s teaming with life and each citizen will react to you and your progress, making it all feel unique.

One interesting note in the game’s description, is the reliance on music and sound, which play a large part in how the automatons interact with each other.

Of course, it’s hard to ignore the inspirations here, but Welcome to Brightville will hopefully set itself apart from what has come before when it launches.

Sadly, there is no release date scheduled, so it’s worth adding to your Steam wishlist to keep an eye on development.
