Battlefield 6 Free Download Available To Claim Right Now

Grab it now

Battlefield 6 players on PlayStation 5 can grab a free download now, and it’ll spice up your home screen.

Electronic Arts released Battlefield 6 just last week, and it’s proving to be a great way to waste your free time. I know it has for me.

In fact, it’s already smashed records as EA’s most successful Steam launch ever, gaining over 700,000 concurrent players on launch day and dethroning Apex Legends.

Now, PlayStation is honouring the release with a new animated wallpaper for Battlefield 6 that you can apply to the welcome hub screen on your PS5.

The image depicts a soldier from Battlefield 6 imposed against a red background. It looks rather cool, though might be tuned a little high if you’ve got a particular sensitivity to bright lights.

However, the animated features with the silhouettes of aircraft in the background look rather cool, and seems like a fitting addition for any Battlefield fan to add to their console while they’re enjoying the new game.

In addition to Battlefield 6, PS5 users can also apply a new NBA 2K26 wallpaper to the welcome hub too, in case you’d prefer a more sports flavour to your home screen. Either way, you can access both of them from the customisation screen on the PS5 home screen.

It’s not exactly themes, however, which is something that PlayStation gamers have been begging Sony for ever since the PS5 launched without themes.

Sure, we got some classic ones for the 30th anniversary celebrations at least, but it hasn’t really been a major substitute. I miss that Firewatch theme, Sony.

In my Battlefield 6 review, I called the game “this year’s killer FPS”, and that “well-designed maps and strong teamplay features make for interesting online rounds.

“This bleeds out into other aspects of the game; the gunplay, the weapon customisation, and the destruction mechanics. It’s punchy, direct, and exciting. It all feels carefully tuned to how players have wanted the game to be like since the golden era of the series.”

The game is intended as a “return to form” for the series, taking inspiration from classic titles set in the modern era like Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4, ignoring the more experimental games that have been released more recently.

Alongside the usual multiplayer modes, there’s a campaign, the custom content creator Portal mode, as well as a supposed Battle Royale releasing at a later date.
