The upcoming Battlefield 6 is the talk of the gaming world as EA has spent the last week showcasing all that the first-person shooter title has to offer.

On top of a release date, talk of open access, rumours of a brand-new mode, and much more, discussions have also turned to skins as Battlefield 6 will not follow in the footsteps of its rival series, Call of Duty.

Call of Duty fans will know that it is pretty normal to see Nicki Minaj, Snoop Dogg and Beavis and Butt-Head running around various war zones as the Activision franchise is no stranger to regularly adding celebrity skins to its entries.

Available through battle passes or thanks to virtual currency, Call of Duty players have access to a wide selection of cosmetics, even if some of them have no correlation to the game’s gritty setting.

However, according to Battlefield 6’s design director Shashank Uchil, the upcoming release will not follow in CoD’s footsteps and will retain the same gritty aesthetic found in previous Battlefield entries.

"I don’t think it needs Nicki Minaj. Let’s keep it real, keep it grounded,” they said in an interview with DBLTAP.

Damn, that shade.

However, it seems as though this sentiment is shared by the rest of the Battlefield 6 team as, in a conversation with Video Gamer, UX director Alan Pimm hammered home that they are focused on “gritty realism” when it comes to the aesthetic of the game.

Of course, Battlefield 6 will still feature ways to customise your character via skins, whether that be through its battle pass or $100 Phantom Edition bundle with the latter giving access to four skins at launch.

Nevertheless, it seems as though running around Battlefield 6’s potential battle royale mode as your favourite pop star is off the cards.

Battlefield 6 is set to launch on 10 October but will be heading into its early access period in the upcoming weeks.
