The battle between Call of Duty and Battlefield continues but it seems as though the latter is about to pull out its trump card.
Released earlier this month on 10 October, Battlefield 6 is already taking the FPS genre by storm with many fans claiming that the long-running series is officially back.
However, with Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 just around the corner with a 14 November release date, the remainder of 2025 will see the two FPS giants fight it out once again.
That being said, a recent report reveals that Battlefield 6 will not go out without a fight with Battlefield Studios holding one more release in the wings.

According to industry insiders such as Tom Henderson, the long-rumoured Battlefield 6 Battle Royale mode will shadowdrop on 28 October.
Not only that but in the eyes of accounts such as GNGWarzone, “it’ll probably be the final nail in the coffin for Warzone, which is already on life support”.
Warzone, of course, refers to Call of Duty: Warzone which was first released back in 2020 and although the free-to-play battle royale FPS has dominated the genre for quite some time, its popularity has lessened in recent times.
Of course, this means it is the perfect time for Battlefield 6 to release its variation on the much-loved game mode.

All of the recent datamined information has come to social media courtesy of Twitter account ModernWarzone who, for example, has revealed information about Battlefield 6 Battle Royale including proximity chat alongside other exciting features.
If true and the update rolls out on 28 October, this will correspond with the launch of Battlefield 6 Season 1 so this definitely makes it more likely.
The future is looking bright for Battlefield
On that topic, the first season is expected to welcome heaps of new content including the Blackwell Fields map, Strikepoint Mode, and an arsenal of new weapons to check out.

With Battlefield Studios not yet having officially announced this Battlefield 6 Battle Royale mode, the rumours still should be taken with a pinch of salt.
However, with multiple reports and rumours hinting at it happening for the past few months, it seems very likely, even if it may not be shadowdropped on the aforementioned date.
“Great, that is the only way DICE/EA can bring in fresh blood to the BF franchise,” one user wrote.
“Without a BR, only the native community will buy the game, and the BR people will wait for COD Warzone.”

Another agreed, adding, “Battlefield knows today's player base gets bored after four to five weeks of most games. They are in tune with today's gamers and keeping it fresh with new DLCs, BR and updates, keeping it spicy. I like it a lot.”
Battlefield 6 Battle Royale mode reportedly shadowdrops on 28 October 2025.
