One modder has spent the past few years working through a mammoth project to visually overhaul the 2009 stunner, Batman: Arkham Asylum.

They began work on the project back in 2022, releasing the first part of a 4K texture pack that would see the game’s graphics get a huge boost.

Recently, this project was finished with the final parts launching. Altogether, Batman: Arkham Asylum Reborn was years of work recreating and tweaking many textures included in the original game.

Fans seem to be loving the work put in. It’s not a surprise given the original game is still considered one of the greatest action games ever made, and definitely one of the best Batman games.

To be fair, there wasn’t much wrong with the original visuals, though age has made them feel overly blurry due to the 720p requirement.

With 4K visuals, the game looks better than ever and will impress even the most hardcore fans who have played the game over and over.

It’s perhaps worth pairing this mod with another called Asylum 4K, which upscales the cutscenes—there are over 35—giving you a more uniform experience for your next playthrough.

Of course, what we all really want is a proper remaster of the game to come from Warner Bros Games, but who knows if or when that will ever happen.

Batman: Arkham Asylum smashed expectations when it came out in 2009 for several reasons but chief among them is likely the combat system which produced a fluid chain of attacks and abilities.

It also made Batman a split between action star and detective, giving players several ways to get through missions, often skulking in the shadows to plot the best way through an area.

Since 2009, we’ve had several more Arkham games, many of which have gone on to impress fans only expanding the universe greatly.
