Baldur's Gate 3 Meets Stranger Things 2026 RPG Could Be a Hit

If this is half as good as Ravenlok, we're in for a good time

This upcoming turn-based RPG looks like a throwback to both modern and old bangers in the genre, but PlayStation and Nintendo fans should be warned ahead of time that it doesn’t look like it’s set to drop on their platforms of choice any time soon.

If you took the turn-based combat from Baldur’s Gate 3, added in a story and setting similar to something out of the latest season of Stranger Things, and mixed it together with 3D voxel, Minecraft-esque art style, you’d probably end up with a game very similar to Echo Generation 2.

Oh, and you may as well throw in some Slay the Spire influences while you’re at it, too, because why not?

Announced earlier this week at the Fall 2025 Xbox Partner Preview, alongside a shiny trailer, Echo Generation 2 is a voxel-style fantasy deckbuilding RPG (try saying that ten times fast) from developers and publisher Cococucumber, set to drop at some undetermined point in 2026.

According to Echo Generation 2’s newly released Steam page, you play as “Jack”, an “ordinary dad on an extraordinary mission, who’s been trapped in a mysterious new dimension” as he tries to battle his way through something akin to the Upside Down, armed only with his “wits” and a “killer deck of cards.”

Obviously, this is a sequel to the original Echo Generation, but it seems that (from what I can tell) the story is mostly separate from the events of the first game. Unfortunately, I haven’t played the first game, so I can’t give you too much of an insight into its quality.

I have, however, played Cococucumber’s other most famous game: Ravenlok.

Some of you might remember Ravenlok from its announcement trailer Xbox Showcase back in 2022, because the game had some real hype behind it. Weirdly, however, once it finally did drop in May 2023, it kind of seems like everyone forgot about it… which may have something to do with it being an Xbox One/Xbox Series exclusive.

It did eventually make its way to Steam earlier this year however, and I had a blast with it. In fact, I enjoyed Ravenlok so much that I think I’m gonna go back and play the first Echo Generation in preparation for the sequel’s release.

Echo Generation 2 will (thankfully) be making its way to Steam alongside the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X release of the game when it drops next year, however, so hopefully Cococucumber will finally get the attention they deserve this time around.
