Baldur's Gate 3 Confirms New Update We've All Been Waiting For

Someone at Microsoft is getting in trouble for this one

It would appear that Microsoft themselves accidentally just leaked that Baldur’s Gate 3 is getting an Xbox-specific update in the near future that will finally add a feature players have been begging for since release.

Even though Larian Studios has stated that it's done with releasing new content updates for Baldur’s Gate 3, it would seem that updates of a different variety are still on the table.

Last month Larian Studios released the latest Hotfix #34 update for Baldur’s Gate 3, which included support for Intel's new Super Sampling tech, native Steam Deck support, and even a bunch of bug fixes.

So, even though they’re finished with content updates, it would seem that technical updates are still on the table… and it sounds like one such update is on its way very soon, thanks to information leaked by Microsoft.

As spotted by one user over on the r/xbox subreddit, adverts have been popping up on both the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X storefronts for Baldur’s Gate 3, which promise that Microsoft and Larian Studios are adding a long-requested feature to Xbox versions of the game.

As the advert states, Baldur's Gate 3 is apparently "now" compatible with Microsoft's Xbox Play Anywhere feature. Unfortunately for those excited about the “now” part of the advert, that’s not actually true.

As many users in the thread have corroborated, clicking on the advert will reveal that Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t currently compatible with Xbox Play Anywhere. Plus, if you head over to the Xbox listing for the game, the feature isn’t listed anywhere on the site.

Of course, adverts like this don’t just appear at random. It’s pretty clear that BG3 will receive Xbox Play Anywhere support at some point down the line, but that someone at Microsoft has simply published the advert touting the feature a little too early.

By the sounds of things, said reveal is only a few weeks early. That’s because, according to Windows Central’s Jez Corden, Microsoft will be hosting a new Partner Preview showcase next month.

As Corden revealed, the showcase “will focus on third-party titles from Microsoft's publishing partners of all shapes and sizes” and will apparently “feature almost entirely (if not actually entirely) Xbox Play Anywhere titles”. I’d be very surprised if Baldur's Gate 3 doesn’t end up making an appearance there, because I can’t see any better opportunity for Microsoft to announce the news in the near future.
