Baldur's Gate 3 'New Release' Has Fans Surprised And Hyped

Finally, Nintendo fans might be able to play one of the best games ever made

Baldur’s Gate 3 might be coming to a rather unexpected platform at some point in the future, but fans aren’t convinced that it’ll have the chops to actually run it.

I don’t think it’s particularly brave of me to state that Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the best games ever made.

In fact, that’s a pretty unanimously held opinion, which is why it’s a shame that Nintendo fans have never been treated to a port of the game.

That may no longer be the case for long however, as well-regarded leaker NateTheHate (as spotted by Gamespot’s Evan Campbell) has “heard something” about a potential Nintendo Switch 2 port for Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3, although they did note that they “need more verification on it” before they can confirm it for certain.

Over on the r/GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, Reddit users seem excited by the news, but they have their reservations regarding its performance on the Nintendo Switch 2.

“I'm still a little annoyed that they never released a physical version other than the deluxe PS5 version that costs $100 (with shipping). I imagine that the physical version of switch 2 it will a game key card. Also I wonder if you can use the PC version's UI knowing that you can use mouse mode?” commented user Midnight_M_.

“I wouldn't be surprised if it comes to Switch 2 at all… The only thing I wonder about is the CPU performance, considering that even the bigger consoles drop framerate in Act 3 and their CPUs are much stronger than Switch 2's. Although they'd probably fine tune the location to cut down on NPC count etc”, replied user s7ealth.

Baldur's Gate 3 vs Nintendo Switch 2 ability

Personally, I’m also a little concerned about how Baldur’s Gate 3 would run on the system.

It’s not that I doubt that Nintendo Switch 2 has the power capable of running the game. After all, if the Cyberpunk 2077 port is anything to go by, it’s more than possible.

My issue stems from Baldur’s Gate 3’s optimisation on other systems; systems that are more powerful than the Nintendo Switch 2.

Playing BG3 on anything except performance mode on both the base model PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series consoles is essentially a pointless endeavour, because the framerate absolutely tanks.

But performance mode isn’t exactly impressive in itself, because you have to sacrifice a lot of the game’s graphical fidelity to use it… so I think it’s understandable that folks aren’t entirely convinced with the possibility of a Switch 2 port.

Still, it’s a phenomenal game, so if a graphically inferior version of Baldur’s Gate 3 is going to be the only thing that Nintendo Switch 2 users have access to, I’d gladly take an inferior version of one of the best games ever made over not playing it entirely.
