Avengers 6 could bring Hugh Jackman and Tobey Maguire together for the first time

A simply spectacular Avengers film could be in the offing.

To the delight of children and a not insignificant proportion of adults everywhere, Avengers 6 will star Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, according to a scoop from a prolific Marvel YouTuber.

Here's a refresher for those in the audience who aren't au fait with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the direction that the films and TV shows are taking. Avengers 6, formally titled Avengers: Secret Wars, follows from Endgame and seems to be inspired by the comics crossover series of the same name. That story sees the collision of two separate universes causing their total obliteration and trapping variants of characters on the planet of Battleworld. That's very WYSIWYG, by the way, as it is an absolutely awful place to live.

Nick Fury is no longer the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. in this trailer for Marvel Snap - but who has usurped him?

Phase Four has been marked with films and TV shows that explore the possibilities of the multiverse, and a few fans are describing it as the "fourth wall breaking" phase of the series. Then, the second seasons of What If... and Loki arrive as part of Phase Five alongside Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Marvels. In sum, we're being bombarded with what might be the foundations for a simply spectacular sixth Avengers film with cameos from all sorts of characters.

YouTuber Heavy Spoilers, also known as Steven Spoilsberg, claims that Marvel Studios is "aiming to get as many heavy hitters as they can" in Avengers: Secret Wars. Those "heavy hitters" include Wolverine and Spider-Man, portrayed by Hugh Jackman and Tobey Maguire respectively.

It's not too much of a stretch seeing that Jackman's Wolverine is appearing in the next Deadpool film and Maguire reprised his role as Peter-Two in No Way Home. As a result, these two characters are already confirmed to exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and who's to say that those contracts to star in those films also added a clause to show up in Secret Wars too.
