It's been nearly two years since the launch of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and it would seem Ubisoft is finally ready to show off the next chapter in its beloved stealth-action/open-world RPG franchise.

Ubisoft has announced a number of special events, freebies, and streams to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the release of the original Assassin's Creed. Alongside a free weekend for the excellent Assassin's Creed Origins and new content for Valhalla, we'll soon be treated to our first look at the future of the series.

Ubisoft confirmed that it will be "unveiling the future of Assassin's Creed" during a special livestream event currently scheduled for September. It's unclear what, exactly, this could be referring to, but we're almost certain it's a new game.

The most likely scenario is that Ubisoft will finally show off Assassin's Creed Infinity, the previously announced live-service game that, according to rumours, will serve as a massive online platform that evolves over time. Very little is known about this new endeavor at the moment, but it's clear Ubisoft sees Infinity as the future of the Assassin's Creed.

There's also a strong possibility that the previously leaked Assassin's Creed game set in Baghdad will be shown off. Both Bloomberg and Eurogamer understand that this is a smaller, standalone adventure which will return the franchise to its stealth-action roots.

Ubisoft has not confirmed the existence of this game, but it's rumoured to launch in 2023. While it may not be the focus of Ubisoft's big September show, there's every chance we'll get a brief teaser for it alongside Infinity.

We'll be sure to update you just as soon as we learn more about what Ubisoft has up its sleeve for Assassin's Creed fans going in the 15th anniversary.
