If reports are to be believed, Ubisoft have cancelled three unannounced games amidst heavy losses in the previous financial year. Seemingly, in what is likely to be a safe move, it’s full steam ahead with the familiar and successful Assassin’s Creed franchise. We’ve got Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Codename Hexe and Codename Jade - with Jade being set in ancient China. The setting of Hexe remains a mystery. On top of that, another four AC games are thought to now be in development including a sequel to Nexus, a VR title, ‘Project Nebula’, and a mystery title. Today though, we’re here to talk about Codename Red.

Check out the trailer for Assassin’s Creed Mirage below.

Set in feudal Japan and developed by Ubisoft Quebec, a report by Insider Gaming now adds that Codename Red will feature both a samurai and a shinobi. It’s believed that these will form the two main playable characters. The samurai, revealed in the teaser previously released by Ubisoft, is believed to be female. On the other hand, it’s reported that the shinobi is an African refugee who learned the way of the Creed.

Perhaps most excitingly though, Insider Gaming go on to claim that the game will have stealth-based gameplay, with devs taking a Splinter Cell and Hitman approach to the title. Gameplay is thought to include features like hiding bodies, sneaking around in tall grass (a gaming classic), and extinguishing lights so your shadows are not being spotted. Codename Red is expected to have a 2024 or 2025 release, but no details have officially been provided on this just yet.

Before then, we have Mirage which should get a full reveal in the coming months seeing as it’s releasing this year.
