Ubisoft hit Assassin’s Creed fans with a whole load of stuff to be excited about during the 10 September game showcase. From the full reveal of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, to the final DLC expansion of Valhalla, and even the announcement of Codename Red, an upcoming flagship title which will be set in feudal Japan - something which fans have been clamouring after for years.

Take a look at the trailer for Assassin's Creed Mirage right here.

Also revealed was Assassin's Creed Hexe - very, very little was said about it, but we got a very short teaser which shows the Assassins’ insignia made from branches, dangling from a tree above a fire. Naturally, this has sent everyone into full speculation-mode trying to work out what’s going on - many believe that the game could centre around witch trials (one report from Bloomberg claims as such).

Amongst all this, it seems many fans are all hoping for the same thing - a female protagonist. Over on Reddit, people have been sharing their views on the matter.

“Like this [isn’t] up for discussion[,] if the whole game is about witch trials the protag [sic] better be female,” wrote Legal-Fuel2039. “No more ‘[choose your] gender’ no more ‘actually this is the canon gender’[,] make the protag female and write a really f**king good story about the crime of women being sent to die on just a suspicion that they may be a witch[,] and how our assassin character is having to deal with that because […] the things she can do as an assassin make her look like a witch.”

“The idea of it being a pseudo-survival horror game makes a lot of sense with a female protagonist having to avoid being caught and tried for witchcraft while collecting resources to survive in the wilds, and using her resources to assassinate her targets without being caught,” added EmboarIsland. “As long as the story is good and ties well with the protagonist, I couldn't care less about the gender. But you do make a point here. If the game indeed takes place during the witch trials, it would make a lot of sense to have a female protagonist and there should be no gender swapping options,” wrote ameensj.
