Ubisoft’s next big Assassin’s Creed game has already got fans hyped, and I’m right there with them because the concept sounds cool as hell.
Even though it was announced well over two years ago at this point, there’s not a lot of concrete info out there regarding the next entry in the Assassin’s Creed series.
Here’s what we do know: it’s called Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe (for now), it’s being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, and it’s almost definitely set during the Witch Trials in the Holy Roman Empire.

If you can believe it, all that info can be gleaned from this 30-second-long teaser trailer that dropped back in 2022. “Hexe” is German for witch, by the way, if you’re curious as to how we know about the setting from a 30-second clip of some sticks.
As far as unconfirmed information goes though… well, we have a lot of that.
As revealed by Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, some footage of the game made its way to certain outlets “under the condition that it not go public” (oops) that sounds super juicy.
“While details on all of her abilities are unclear, footage sent to Insider Gaming under the condition that it not go public shows off one of these abilities,” Henderson divulged.

“In the footage, Elsa is seemingly being hunted by 16th-century German soldiers (image of what the soldiers look like here) and uses a spell to possess a nearby cat.”
So, we get to play as a literal witch with superpowers? Sign me up, because I think that sounds awesome– and it seems everyone over on the r/assassinscreed subreddit agrees.
“Yeah, minus the AC part, this sounds super exciting. Like living through the eyes of a legit witch during the European witch trials, being hunted, having to survive, and possibly being captured and having to escape before being burned alive just sounds like a cool concept for a video game,” commented user Ggriffinz.
“For her magic powers, it could be tied to her having a piece of eden or something that allows for possession of non-human life. While i have abandoned preorder culture due to being burned too often, this would be a day 1 purchase if reviews come out positively.”

“Sounds nice, supposed to be really atmospheric too like the original AC Victory which turned into Syndicate, hopefully a dense city with lots of parkouring also like AC unity and Syndicate,” replied user fakemcfakeres.
Obviously we don’t know anything in regards to Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe’s release date or even what platforms it will drop on, but I’d wager we’ll hear more out of this one very, very soon.
