Assassin’s Creed fan-favourite star responds to potential return: ‘I’m ready’

Ubisoft, take note

The Assassin’s Creed franchise is largely one that looks to the future.

Ubisoft is interested in bringing us new stories, taking us to unexplored locales alongside new protagonists.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is proof of that, introducing us to Naoe and Yasuke as we explore Feudal Japan for the first time.

But Ubisoft is starting to come around to the idea that returning to the past isn’t always a bad thing.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage, for example, came from the realisation that there was plenty more story left to tell when it came to Basim, a character who first appeared in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

And then, of course, there’s the rumour that Black Flag may even be getting a total remake.

You then have to start wondering which other games or characters may well be worth revisiting.

I know who I’d choose.

You can take a look at Assassin’s Creed Shadows in action below.

Assassin’s Creed Origins is easily up there with Shadows as one of the best AC entries to utilise the RPG formula.

Origins offers a thoroughly engaging story, and Abubakar Salim’s Bayek is an important part of that.

But with the game ending just as Bayek is setting up the order, it feels like there’s far more to unpick.

And I think it’s fair to say that Abubakar has become a fan-favourite, constantly championing both the Assassin’s Creed franchise and the video games industry itself.

We had the opportunity to catch up with the actor at the recent BAFTA Games Awards where Abubakar won the award for ‘Game Beyond Entertainment’ for his debut title Tales of Kenzera: Zau.

Before his well-deserved win though, I had to ask Abubakar whether he’d be interested in returning as Bayek.

“Hey, I’m ready for it,” Abubakar told us on the red carpet.

“The one thing I’m always surprised about is the love that the community has for the character. For me, I just want to keep giving back, so if ever there’s a chance or an opportunity to do it again, I’d jump at it in a heartbeat.”

And we would to play it. Go on Ubisoft, make it happen.
