Assassin’s Creed Shadows star Masumi has told us what it means to be part of such an enormous series.

Masumi plays the assassin character Naoe in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, sharing the story with Tongayi Chirisa who plays the samurai Yasuke.

Take a look at Assassin’s Creed Shadows below.

Speaking about her experience in both preparing and playing the role, Masumi told us this on the red carpet of the recent BAFTA Games Awards: “There's so much to learn, and I’m just really honoured to be a part of it, as a Japanese story … I’ve been wanting to sit back and just take in everything, that's kind of how I feel."

Masumi went on to explain that she’d always wanted to play a video game character, but wasn’t aware before taking on the role how huge of a franchise Assassin’s Creed actually was.

She described “finding out what Assassin's Creed is” as one of her most surreal moments with the role, going on to say, “I didn't know before, I didn't play video games, and I was like ‘Oh, I'm a video game character. Great.' I always wanted to do this.”

Nevertheless, Masumi described being part of the series as an “honour”, saying, “It’s just bigger than myself.”

Naoe isn’t the first female assassin in the series by any means but it’s nice to see more and more female led Assassin’s Creed stories emerge as the series progresses.

When asked how she felt about the fan reception to the role, Masumi explained that it wasn’t just Naoe being a woman that resonated with the audience.

“You know what, I'm actually getting more messages from people that are half Japanese or a quarter Japanese saying that they feel very seen. And that touches me so much, it's very sweet," she told us.

Naoe’s story in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is out right now, but you never know ... perhaps we’ll see the character again one day in another game.
