Assassin's Creed fans get their hands on a ton of free downloads as part of a big new promotion from Ubisoft designed to push the action/RPG/stealth franchise to new audiences. Because, you know, nobody has heard of Assassin's Creed.

It's certainly a spicy time to be an Assassin's Creed fan, what with Ubisoft really doubling down on the series. This year we have the back-to-basics Assassin's Creed Mirage to look forward to, while 2024 will take us to Japan and China via the long-awaited Assassin's Creed Red and mobile spinoff Jade. Beyond that? So much more. Maybe too much, frankly, but who am I to judge?

Take a look at Assassin's Creed Mirage in action below!

If you just can't wait for the next batch of Assassin's Creed goodness to be shovelled into your mouth like a greedy Tudor king at a banquet, Ubisoft has you covered with some classics.

Starting tomorrow (10 August) and running until 14 August, no less than five Assassin's Creed games will be free to play on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, plus PC via the Ubisoft and Epic Games stores.

They're five of the best in the series, by the way. You'll be able to download, depending on platform: Assassin's Creed II, Revelations, Brotherhood, Black Flag and Valhalla.

Players will be able to access all content from all five games, and if you do decide to make a permanent purchase after 14 August, your progress will carry over. Oh, and to sweeten the pot there are huge discounts on the Assassin's Creed games on all platforms, with PlayStation users notably getting a whopping 80 percent off all titles mentioned above.

Given Ezio Auditore is widely considered to be one of gaming's best characters, it's just as well that he stars in the majority of the games on offer here. But be sure not to sleep on Black Flag, which for my money is the real best game in the series.
