Happy Friday, reader. It’s once again time to hit all those nostalgia buttons and get you feeling all warm and fuzzy about a 12 year old game, with one of those oh-so-juicy fan-made remasters. Because what better way to kick off the weekend?
This time, one of the internet’s most prolific game-remaster magicians, Digital Dreams, has breathed new life into Assassin’s Creed II. From a shiny new HD texture pack, to the application of the Reshade Ray Tracing Mod, a whole lot has been done to crank the game’s visuals up a notch to 8K splendour, and it’s glorious.
Ready for a bit of a throwback? Check out the evolution of the Assassin's Creed series below.
In a video posted to their YouTube channel, you can check out a full 10 minute long graphics showcase. And, if you’re a fan, then you’re in luck - Digital Dreams has ever-so-kindly included links to all the mods they used in the description, so you can download and use them yourself. If you’re not sure whether or not your PC could handle it, you can also compare to their handy specs list.
As you’d imagine, as great as this remaster is, it’s only gotten fans of the series more hyped for something official: “This game deserves a proper remake,” wrote Raghav Khurana. The graphics were only part of the magic for many viewers, though: “That [original] music always brings back childhood memories and tears,” commented Pranto. “The soundtracks played a [huge] part in Ezio becoming such a beloved character. If not the gameplay for some or the lengthy story, just the soundtracks alone make me want to go back in[to] this beautiful world,” said Shivansh Dixit (Gaming).

Unfortunately though, it would seem that Ubisoft’s focus is definitely not on the older games at the minute. Last month, in a post attempting to celebrate the birthday of the original game’s hero, Altaïr, they somehow completely missed the mark, and attached a picture of the sequel’s Ezio Auditore da Firenze instead. Oops. Well, mistakes happen, right?
