You’re almost there, Assassin’s Creed fans. The drought is almost over.

The previous entry in Ubisoft’s long-running series landed in October of 2023, with Assassin’s Creed Mirage taking the series back to its stealth-based roots.

Of course, that was due to be followed by Assassin’s Creed Shadows around one year later but the game was pushed from its November 2024 release date, with the title due to finally land next month.

It’s one that, despite not having been released yet, is already surrounded by ‘controversy’ over its representation.

I use inverted commas because this controversy essentially whittles down to narrow-minded individuals being enraged by the game being led by a woman and a black samurai.

Placing that noise aside, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is seemingly shaping up to be a promising title, mixing the best of both worlds - close-quarters stealth with an engaging open world.

The latest glimpse at the game’s parkour certainly left me feeling impressed.

Unfortunately, we do have one more month left to wait before the game is released, but I have a worthwhile distraction in the meantime.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will finally launch on 14 February.

It’s time to jump back to the title that started it all, albeit with a fresh lick of paint.

One modder has painstakingly remastered the original Assassin’s Creed, and you can enjoy the fruits of their efforts for free right now.

Naturally, as a mod, you’ll need to have a PC to get this one working as well as a copy of Assassin’s Creed.

“This is an attempt to make the definitive version of Assassin's Creed. I collected all of the good mods, patches and ReShade Presets and put them in one big package alongside my custom open source launcher that tries to automate things as much as possible, “ modder shazzaam wrote.

As for what this mod entails, well, you can expect improved textures and lighting, bug fixes, plus the option to skip the launcher.

The mod also has Discord Rich Presence, which is to say that the fact that you’re playing it will be displayed in Discord if you have it running concurrently.

If this all sounds like your cup of tea, simply head on over to NexusMods and get downloading.
