Arc Raiders and The Finals Are Connected, Players Finally Have Proof

Well, kinda.

ARC Raiders players finally have the evidence they need to prove that the game exists in the same universe as The Finals. Well, kinda.

The Finals was Embark Studios’ game prior to ARC Raiders, and, while it never quite hit the same heights as the latter, it still remains a fairly popular FPS to this date.

It seems that Embark Studios may have liked working on The Finals so much, that the creative team ended up reusing some assets between both games that players are thinking is proof that places them in the same universe.

As posted on the The Finals Reddit page, one user has made a rather fun observation spotting a case of reused assets between both games.

Shared by user tomzorzhu, the image shows a storage cabinet that appears in both games.

In The Finals, the cabinet is brand new and in great condition. However, in ARC Raiders, it’s rusted, missing some doors, and in a state of disrepair.

“Finally, indisputable proof that The Finals and Arc Raiders share the same universe,” writes the user on Reddit, poking fun at the fact that Embark has reused this asset but changed it up to fit the world of ARC Raiders.

Obviously, asset reuse doesn’t necessarily mean the games take place in the same continuity, but it’s still fun to speculate, especially as both games are from the same team.

Reused Assets Is A Common Thing In Game Development For Good Reason

Plenty of other developers do this, such as FromSoftware reusing many animations and sound effects across Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio also does this with the Yakuza series, featuring the same locations across many different games.

After all, why spend loads of time making a brand new asset for something, when you could save time and money by touching up something that has already been created?

“As soon as I played my first match on Buried City I noticed that the buildings are essentially copy/pasted from the Monaco map in Finals,” writes another player in the same Reddit thread.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think we’ll be seeing any major confirmations from Embark Studios regarding connections between both of its games.

It’s clear that while the developer has spent a lot of time fleshing out its franchises, it intends for both The Finals and ARC Raiders to be their own entities. Though isn't it fun to think they could be in the same world?
