The cast of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse just got even more stacked, as it’s been reported that American actor and comedian Andy Samberg will be voicing one of the many Spider-People that Marvel Comics fans will know well. In fact, he'll have a very familiar face (even if you might not immediately recognise his name).

Have you managed to tear your eyes away from the latest Across the Spider-Verse trailer yet? Our most recent glimpse of the film was revealed a month ago now, and I still can’t contain my excitement. As the sequel to 2018’s excellent Into the Spider-Verse, the next instalment will continue Miles Morales’ story, and, as I'm sure you’ll have gathered from the trailers, will introduce fans to a bunch more cool Spider-People from across the multiverse.

Take a look at the latest trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse below.

One Take News claims that - according to its sources - Samberg will be voicing none other than Ben Reilly (aka the Scarlet Spider) in the upcoming animated film. For those unfamiliar, in the comics, Ben Reilly is actually a clone of Peter Parker - although he’s originally tasked with taking the original Spider-Man down, he instead becomes his ally. Actually, there’s a lot more to it than that - he has a complex and seriously intriguing story which I can’t possibly hope to sum up in a single paragraph, but rest assured that he’s a seriously cool dude, and there’s good reason why fans have been looking forward to seeing him make his on-screen debut in Across the Spider-Verse.

Slightly disappointingly, One Take News reports that the Scarlet Spider will only have a supporting role in the film, and won’t feature as prominently as some of the other Spider-People. The website’s sources apparently said that he could have a larger role in the third Spider-Verse film, Beyond the Spider-Verse, but that hasn’t been confirmed, nor has it been stated if Samberg will reprise his role. We’ll just have to wait and see.
