Earlier this week, Sony Pictures released a brand new trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and oh my. I’m going to be real with you, I’ve not stopped looking at it.

Across the Spider-Verse is the sequel to 2018’s phenomenal Into the Spider-Verse, which is easily one of the greatest and most visually stunning animated films ever. The sequel will continue Miles Morales’ story, and is also set to introduce fans to loads more cool Spider-People from across the multiverse. As thrilling as that all is, as Inside the Magic reports, many fans are celebrating one small but very important moment from the trailer, in which a trans pride flag with a ‘protect trans kids’ message can be spotted in the background.

Take a look at the latest trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse below - stick around until the end to spot the wholesome message.

Did you see it? Near the end of the trailer, during a short shot of Gwen sat in her room, the flag can be spotted up on her wall, right above her door. On Twitter, fans have been reacting to the message’s inclusion.

“Spider-Gwen says trans rights LET’S F**KING GOOOOOOO SHE’S MY GOAT,” @MechaWolfEmber tweeted. “SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP THIS IS SO IMPORTANT TO ME,” wrote @OPENEDCASKET. “As if I didn’t love her enough already,” posted @harlilly_quinn.

What’s more, some are hoping that the flag could imply that Gwen herself is a trans woman: “OH MY GOD. TRANS GWEN IS REAL,” @crescentbears tweeted. “This is vindicating for me, who has a Spider-Gwen collection and always pointed out her suit has a trans flag colour palette,” @Jbandos posted. “Trans Gwen is actually so real,” @bunnyhopluvr999 wrote.

At the time of writing, it’s not been officially confirmed if Gwen or any of the other Spider-People in the film are trans, but there’s no doubt that fans would be overjoyed at the representation if so.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse releases in cinemas on 2 June.
