American McGee's Alice was the first of two games released by the legendary developer set in the weird and wacky world of Lewis Carroll's novels. While the sequel Madness Returns is probably the more famous of the two, both did more than enough to secure cult status and there are regular calls for the series to return in some way.
While a new game just isn't going to happen at this point, there is a mod in the early stages of development that should go some way to bringing the original game into the modern day.
As reported by DSO Gaming, YouTuber Digital Clowntree has been working on an RTX Remix Path Tracing mod that updates the game's lighting and shadows to bring them closer to parity with games released over the last few years.
The caveat to all of this is that the mod is in the very early stages of development and there is plenty to do before the technology is fully realised in the Alice setting. Right now, there are visual artifacts, tearing and some issues with textures that immediately stand out in the limited gameplay footage on offer so far.

While there is still clearly plenty to work on before it's ready for release, this version of Alice already looks considerably better than anything fans have seen to date.
American McGee's Alice is only the latest in a long line of games to get the RTX treatment from solo modders or small teams. Deus Ex, Tomb Raider and Left for Dead 2 are all currently being RTX Remixed, while other legendary titles like Call of Duty 4 are being looked at as potential candidates to go next.
For those who are desperate to get their hands on the RTX Alice mod, the developer is unfortunately yet to confirm a build release date with plenty of visual issues to solve before the download is made available.
