As an avid MOBA player, it's always nice when a new game appears in the genre that looks like it has the requisite ingredients to really hang with the big boys in the space,

Enter March of Giants, the debut title from Amazon Games Montreal that places players into a battlefield where you control thousands of soldiers in a competitive multiplayer setting, combining the defining features of a MOBA with the beloved strategic thinking of an RTS.

In a press release confirming the news, the studio shared the following, "March of Giants is the debut title from Amazon Games Montreal, a studio composed of passionate developers with deep experience in creating innovative, competitive PvP games. Led by Creative Director Xavier Marquis, and with many core team members behind the critically acclaimed Rainbow Six Siege, the studio brings their depth of expertise in disrupting genres to the MOBA space."

So if you're a little confused about what it's all going to look like, here's the lowdown on what to expect. You play as a titular Giant, towering over the battlefield, commanding your forces and leading from the frontline in combat.

Matches consist of 4v4 battles where the key to victory is in the way you strategise and build, with structures also playing a key role in holding areas on your way to the proverbial W.

Christoph Hartmann, the VP of Amazon Games also shared his thoughts on the upcoming release, saying, "Xavier and the Montreal team have an incredible vision for March of Giants, and we believe in their ability to bring a fresh perspective to the MOBA genre. The team's passion and experience in creating innovative competitive games is evident in what they've built so far. We're excited to start gathering player feedback during this Closed Alpha phase, which will be crucial in shaping the future of the game."

The first Closed Alpha is set to start on 2 September, though this initial run is only available to players in North America, before other regions join later on in subsequent Alpha/Beta phases. To take part, you can request access on the game's Steam page.

This playtest will feature 15 Giants, each of which has unique powers and abilities; 10 of those are available from the outset, with more unlocking as you play through the game.
