Resident Evil Meets BioShock and Fallout in Eerie New Horror

Mmmmm bleak

For whatever reason, us gamers love hopping into a game that puts us in the grimest places we can possibly imagine.

Whether it's the Capital Wasteland or New Vegas from the Fallout series, or the underwater dystopia of Rapture from Bioshock, it seems we just can't get enough of horrendous locales.

If you count yourself amongst that significant number, a new game is on the way that should scratch that proverbial itch, combining elements of the above with some exciting new gameplay choices that should really make it stand out from the crowd.

Hail to the Rainbow is an upcoming action adventure that put players into a brand-new, post-apocalyptic cyberpunk setting as Ignat, a lonely young man who is merely seeking to survive in the dangerous and gloomy world.

In the developer's own words, Hail to the Rainbow is "a first-person story-driven adventure game with horror and shooter elements. In the universe of the game, you will face the dangers of a new reality, immerse yourself in the secrets of the surrounding chaos, and also relive the memories and moral torment of the protagonist. Explore the environment, explore electronic records and solve technical puzzles, collect items and upgrade your inventory, this will come in handy on your journey."

After losing his parents, your character has to make his own way in a world with few survivors and a lot of machines and monsters that all seem pretty intent on killing you. Though it arguably isn't the main focus, the game features both melee combat and shooter mechanics that look pretty tight in the limited gameplay footage available so far.

The developer is keen to stress the extent of the story, but there are some other nice features considering the modest development team behind it. There's a fully original soundtrack, as well as a photo mode and additional bonuses after you complete your first runthrough.

Though they haven't specified exactly what they will look like, there are also going to be puzzle mechanics of sorts, described by the developer as "technical challenges".

The bad news is that there is no release date forthcoming from the developer just yet, but that doesn't mean you can't give it a go if you fancy. Head over to the Steam page and you should be able to find a free demo available, that gives a preview of the game's earlier throes. If you like what you see there, chances are you will also like the full game when it comes along.
