From multiplayer Witcher chaos to Poké Balls in Baldur’s Gate 3, January was a rather tumultuous time on the PC modding scene.
Expanding your games with the use of free mods is a surefire way to breathe some new life into them, bringing potentially dozens of hours of new content.
As we cover a lot of these mods here at GAMINGbible, I thought it best to highlight some of the most interesting ones from the past month. Let’s dive in, shall we?

Baldur’s Gate 3: B.A.L.L. Character Capture
Advert
As the name implies, B.A.L.L. Character Capture introduces a Poké Ball-type system to Baldur’s Gate 3. The mod allows you to capture any NPC to free them later. Or don’t, if you’re feeling particularly menacing.
As mod author For_Kiramay states, the mod hasn’t got any safety rails on it. So, that means you can break things if you’re not careful. Make sure not to use it on a serious playthrough.

Stardew Valley: Hardew Valley
JP’s Hardew Valley introduces a harder difficulty mode to Stardew Valley, where you can modify different aspects of the game to make them more challenging for you.
This includes reducing the amount of income you receive, the amount of health and energy you can recover, with more items required to finish bundles and slower experience points being earned. It should mean you’re being a little more careful with your new game strategy.

The Witcher 3: Witcher Online
The new Witcher Online mod adds online multiplayer to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, meaning you can now share in your adventures with other Geralts from across the world.
The mod is pretty limited for now, as you can’t really fight monsters or do quests together. It functions quite similarly to how Dark Souls’ player ghosts work, where you can see other players but can’t really do much with them. However, it’s really cool as a proof of concept, and who knows where it’ll lead.

Red Dead Redemption: First Person
Rockstar Games may have embraced first-person camera modes in GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, but its 2010 predecessor did not receive this kind of game mode.
Luckily, one modder stepped in to do this instead, introducing first-person camera views to Red Dead Redemption. The mode is still a work-in-progress, but presents the game from the eyes of John Marston, allowing you to roam around on foot and shoot bad guys in first-person view.

Fallout New Vegas: Those – Part 2
Fallout: New Vegas is one of the best Fallout games, but we really wish the side quests were a little more memorable compared to its predecessor, Fallout 3. That game just had a whole load of amazing quests.
Those – Part 2 resurrects one of Fallout 3’s best side quests, “Those!”, which saw you eliminating a town full of mutated fire ants. The mod is a sequel for Fallout: New Vegas, featuring a similar premise in the new Nevada Wasteland setting.
That’s it for this month, but be sure to check back in March for more free mods that we’d recommend playing.
