Red Dead Redemption First-Person Makeover Pulls You Right Into the Wild West

This mod makeover is a game-changer

A Red Dead Redemption mod quite literally changes the game and throws you right into the Wild West like never before. Well, apart from Call of Juarez, but I digress.

When it comes to Wild West video games, it arguably doesn't get much better than Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption series, the creators of the goliath that is Grand Theft Auto.

Despite most players' introduction to the series being 2010’s Red Dead Redemption starring John Marston, the first game that kickstarted this beloved series is 2004’s Red Dead Revolver.

Fun fact: Red Dead Revolver was originally developed by a studio called Angel Studios, and it was funded by Resident Evil and Street Fighter creator, Capcom. Before, Rockstar Games acquired Angel Studios and rebranded it to Rockstar San Diego.

While Red Dead Revolver was a fun game, it was a bit rough around the edges, but it most certainly laid the foundation for Red Dead Redemption and 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2.

All the Red Dead games are played in a third-person perspective, not taking into account being able to switch perspectives for gunslinging moments. Don’t get me wrong, I much prefer the third-person perspective, but if you’re looking for a new way to experience Red Dead Redemption, then this mod could be your cup of Moonshine.

“America, 1911. The Wild West is dying. When federal agents threaten his family, former outlaw John Marston is forced to pick up his guns again and hunt down the gang of criminals he once called friends,” reads its synopsis.

“Experience an epic fight for survival across the sprawling expanses of the American West and Mexico, as John Marston struggles to bury his blood-stained past, one man at a time.”

The mod in question is called ‘First-Person’, which hits the nail right on the proverbial head when it comes to revealing its purpose. The mod is created by Glitched Matrix, and it’s free to download right now via Nexusmods.

The creator of the mod does mention that this is still a work-in-progress, so some bugs may be encountered. They also mention that for cover and riding, the game remains in third-person, to which the modder says that it’s better that way. The mod will also receive updates to improve the experience.

However, as is the case with most mods, this is a PC exclusive. For the rest of us, we can play Red Dead Redemption as intended on PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. Oh, and on mobile via the Netflix app.
