Zack Snyder Fans Allegedly Rigged Oscars' Wins By Using Bots

You can’t criticise the dedication of Zack Snyder fans. After four years of heavy campaigning, they were finally awarded with Zack Snyder’s Justice League which in turn, was surprisingly awarded with an Oscar.

I say surprisingly not because Zack Snyder’s Justice League is a bad film, but because it’s not your stereotypical awards season darling. The nomination was for ‘Cheer Moment’ whilst Snyder’s Army of the Dead was nominated for ‘Fan Favourite.’ If you didn’t know that these awards existed, don’t worry. Me neither. The brand new fan-voted awards are all very MTV Movie Awards-esque. I guess the Oscars are trying to be young and hip.

Snyder’s films took home both of the aforementioned awards but it has now come to light that fans of the director may have actually rigged the vote. According to a report published by The Wrap, Snyder fans used bots to falsely automate more votes.

A tool called Tweetbinder was used to track hashtag analytics and it determined that the majority of active votes came from autonomous web programmes. On average, Snyder’s films received between 4,000 and 15,000 votes a day. However on certain days, over 25,000 votes were cast which doesn’t fit with the expected voting patterns.

The report cites University of Maryland professor David Kirsch as a source. Kirsch claims that the vote patterns “certainly do not look like they were generated by a human user.”

The polls were run by the firm Telescope. Users were apparently limited to 20 votes per handle, and accounts had to be more than 24 hours old to vote. It awaits to be seen if these findings will affect the outcome of these awards but all I’m saying is, Will Smith still has his Oscar so I shouldn’t expect the voting outcome to change anytime soon.
