A remaster of GoldenEye 007 is undeniably one of the most rumoured gaming projects of recent years. This N64 classic was released back in 1997 and was later reimagined for the Nintendo Wii and DS in 2010. It was then scheduled to receive a remaster during the Xbox 360 era but that was cancelled due to licensing difficulties.
Just last year, GoldenEye 007 gameplay seemingly appeared online and so the remaster rumours underwent yet another resurgence. Quite honestly, getting to the bottom of the GoldenEye 007 remaster mystery requires topnotch detective skills but Xbox may have just accidentally put us out of our misery.
Speaking of reimaginings, someone modded Super Mario 64 into GoldenEye 007. Take a look below.
Twitter user Wario64 spotted that achievements for GoldenEye 007 have now appeared on the official Xbox website which certainly suggests that the game is coming. It’s hard to imagine why else Xbox would have posted the achievements even if they didn’t mean to do so just yet.
As we know, a previous remaster was held back by trademark issues but reportedly the developers were finally granted an extension of the GoldenEye 007 trademark on 15 March 2022 specifically for “downloadable electronic game software,” which is a promising step closer to release.

GoldenEye 007 is of course based on the 1995 Bond film of the same name and is considered to be one of the greatest video games of all time. The title is a pioneer of the first-person shooter genre and also popularised stealth and various multiplayer elements.
Whilst this latest development in the ongoing GoldenEye 007 saga is incredibly promising, we’re still lacking an official announcement but it’s worth noting that Xbox should be making a slew of announcements at the upcoming Xbox and Bethesda showcase. Perhaps GoldenEye 007 will finally get its full reveal and we can stop being amateur detectives.
