Xbox gamers love Fable Anniversary’s remaster on Xbox Series X/S, with some calling it “amazing” and “slick”.

Originally released in 2014, Fable Anniversary was itself already a remaster of the original Fable from 2004.

Released for the Xbox 360, it came with enhanced graphics, lighting, as well as overhauling a few outdated gameplay features. For those of us who love the Fable games, it was a dream come true.

But the 360 did hold it back somewhat by limiting the game’s resolution to 720p and 30FPS. It wasn’t until it was later enhanced for Xbox One X and Xbox Series X/S that we could see just how much effort went into this remaster.

“Fable Anniversary looks amazing on Xbox Series X with Auto HDR and FPS Boost,” wrote a post on the Gaming Reddit page.

“I had fun with that game,” wrote a reply in the comments. “I played it exclusively for weeks. Was the Lost Chapters version I got.”

However, others seem to agree that while the game is a classic, it hasn’t aged particularly well even after the Anniversary upgrade.

“Yeah it looks good but I tried going back and playing it and was shocked by how janky it felt,” a comment wrote. “I beat it a few times on original Xbox but the controls have NOT aged well.”

I recently charted my journey into trying to get the Fable games working on PC, to middling success, and eventually concluded that Xbox is still the best place to play these games.

After playing them on a Series X, that opinion doesn’t change. FPS boost means Fable Anniversary now runs at 60FPS, and it also has 4K resolution along with a few other enhancements exclusive to the more powerful consoles.

Hopefully Playground Games’ Fable is able to take the core idea of the series and modernise it. It’s due for release in 2026, but a concrete release date hasn’t been confirmed yet.
