'Wreckreation' Is Basically Burnout Spiritual Successor, Worked On By Same Devs

We are the lazy generation.

Gamers of a certain age and volition will remember the vice-like grip the Burnout games had on the driving genre throughout the 00s. From the original Burnout through to Burnout: Paradise (and its remaster by EA in 2018) they serviced a particular need in gamers that many other racing titles simply weren’t able to cater to. Pure, wanton destruction.

For sure, the purists had titles like Gran Turismo and Forza to keep them ticking over, but anybody who played those games could vividly describe the feeling of obliterating an opposing driver and turning their car into pure scrapyard fodder. It was glorious.

This is where the newly announced Wreckreation comes in. Revealed by THQ Nordic during their 2022 Digital Showcase, Wreckreation is going to look very familiar to those who loved the Burnout and Need For Speed games, and for good reason - it’s being worked on by ex-Criterion Games staff.

Spearheaded by Three Fields Entertainment, Wreckreation puts its focus directly on wreaking havoc with friends. As well as having actual slow-mo takedown cams in the game’s standard races, there’s also the ability to edit tracks in the sandbox world on the fly. Think your friend could do with a ramp to ruin their racing line? Then drop one in and watch chaos ensue. You can even create your own courses thousands of feet in the air, which looks more than a little like some of the very popular custom races you see in Grand Theft Auto Online.
