It looks like the alleged upcoming DLC for The Witcher 3 is set to introduce a whole new region.
Last week, we reported on claims that CD Projekt Red is set to release a brand new DLC expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt later this year.
According to industry analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski, the upcoming DLC will serve as a way to bridge the gap between The Witcher 3 and The Witcher 4, which is said to be launching in “Q4 2027”.
Now, a new report has added to these rumours courtesy of IGN Poland, which claims that it has known about the new expansion for at least a few years, and has included new details about the DLC in their report.

“We knew about the work on a potential new expansion behind the scenes a long time ago,” reads the report from IGN Poland (translation via Reddit). “Our informant – a person who has repeatedly provided us with reliable behind-the-scenes information – confirmed at the time that a new expansion was in the works, albeit at a very early stage.”

A New Witcher 3 DLC Could Be Headed To A New Region
The site states that it didn’t write about the expansion at the time because there weren’t enough sources to corroborate the information, and that “we decided that it wasn't enough to get your hopes up based on a single signal.”
IGN Poland then states that the Witcher team was “fascinated by a completely different direction than the frozen north,” and that there are indications that the developer may be “keenly interested in exploring Zerrikania.”
In The Witcher series, Zerrikania is a realm located east of the Northern Kingdoms and the Nilfgaardian Empire, and is populated by a lot of deserts, mountain ranges, and wastelands.
Indeed, IGN Poland states that it believes the setting for the alleged new The Witcher 3 DLC will take us to the desert, further adding to the theory that it could be Zerrikania.
However, it also states that “the studio’s internal plans may have changed,” since hearing about those initial reports.
It’s pretty clear from this recent set of leaks that CD Projekt Red is cooking up something for The Witcher 3. The developer is currently hard at work finishing work on The Witcher 4, but the game is still likely not releasing until late next year.
Meanwhile, we recently spoke to Adrian Chmielarz, one of the developers behind the original cancelled Witcher game from the 1990s before CD Projekt Red, who said that “absolute idiocy” was what killed the project.
