Willem Dafoe once again reiterates his desire to play the Joker in a future Batman movie.

Hollywood star Willem Dafoe is totally down to play the Joker in a future Batman movie. Seriously DC, please make that happen.

Willem Dafoe is one of the best, and most well-respected actors on the planet, and for good reason. Over the years he has starred in classic movies such as Platoon, The English Patient, and Finding Nemo to name but a few.

He’s even starred in the real-time, top-down interactive thriller video game, Twelve Minutes alongside James McAvoy and Daisy Ridley. However, for some, it’s his role as Norman Osborn aka The Green Goblin in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy that has won the hearts of comic book fans.

Furthermore, Dafoe returned to steal the show in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. It’s also worth mentioning that Dafoe has also dabbled in the DC Universe as Vulko in Aquaman starring alongside Jason Momoa as well as Zach Synder’s Justice League cut.

So it's fair to say that Willem Dafoe is an incredibly versatile actor, even when it comes to comic book adaptations and it seems this is a trend that he wants to keep rolling.

As reported by UNILAD, Dafoe was a guest on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. When questioned on fans' desire to see him play the role of the Joker, while he appeared keen, it seems that this dream role won’t be happening anytime soon.

“I just mentioned it in an interview and then it went out on the internet,” Dafoe told Fallon. However, the actor admitted that playing the Joker would be “cool”.

Moreover, when previously speaking to GQ Magazine, Dafoe admitted that he had fantasised about the character alongside Joaquin Phoenix’s version in 2019's Joker.

“There is something interesting about, like, if there was a Joker imposter,” he said. “So it would be possible to have not duelling Jokers but someone that [claims] to be the Joker that isn't the Joker.”

So, if Willem Dafoe was ever to play the Joker, where would he fit in? Well, it seems that Barry Keoghan has claimed the Clown of Gotham role in The Batman movies starring Robert Pattinson, directed by Matt Reeves.

However, as part of James Gunn’s new DC Universe, we do know that there will be a new, separate Batman movie inspired by The Brave and the Bold.

At the time of writing, the roles of Batman and Robin have not been cast. What’s more, the Joker is a prominent villain in The Brave and the Bold and if/when cast, we’d struggle to think of anyone better suited than Willem Dafoe.
