Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 announces huge free update

Give them no ground

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 is getting the update we’ve all been waiting for. I’m excited, and you should be too.

Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment’s third-person shooter completely blew us away last year with an awesome continuation of Warhammer 40k: Space Marine. It expanded on almost every front, with more glorious executions, near-endless hordes of cannon fodder and even a dedicated online mode where you can become your very own space marine.

Now the game is getting its next major update, adding the brand-new Siege mode

The trailer was shown off during today’s Warhammer: Skulls livestream, which shared snippets and trailers for several new and existing titles, my personal favourite announcement being Warhammer 40K: Boltgun 2, the first game of which being one of this month’s free PlayStation Plus games.

Back to Space Marine 2 though, the new Siege mode is essentially a survival mode, where teams of three must defend objective zones as thousands of tyranids swarm the battlefield.

The trailer was full of spectacle, and even teased some colossal enemies getting into the mix, requiring a lot of firepower to take down.

Fortunately the trailer also teased dreadnoughts making a return, which players will recognise from some of the later campaign missions as well as some of the online missions too. It doesn’t look like we’ll be playing as a dreadnought, rather they’ll appear as allies on the battlefield either as part of the map or as some sort of support ability.

It’s a mode that fans have been waiting for since the game first came out, and the team at Saber is just as pleased to see it brought to the game as you are.

Chief Creative Officer of Saber Interactive Tim Willits told GAMINGbible: “I believe players may be as excited to get it as we are to give it to them! Siege Mode has been a hotly anticipated update ever since we revealed its existence, so it’s great that we’re able to showcase it at Skulls, announce a release date, and open test servers very soon.

“With Siege mode, we look forward to introducing a new formula. There’s no mission to complete. It’s all about you and your will to fight until the very end. To say the least, we can’t wait to see how far players will go!”

The Siege mode will land in the game on 26 June, and will also bring with it two more cosmetic packs for players who own the game’s Season Pass.
