Stardew Valley: Distant Lands is a hefty expansion you can try now

Stardew Valley fans can download this hefty expansion, and it’s absolutely free.

Many games have been labelled as an “indie darling”. However, perhaps none are more deserving than Stardew Valley, a game originally released in 2016, developed by the one-man army, ConcernedApe, otherwise known as Eric Barone.

“You've inherited your grandfather's old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life,” reads the synopsis of the game. “Can you learn to live off the land and turn these overgrown fields into a thriving home?”

Over the years, Eric Barone has not only released Stardew Valley on pretty much all possible platforms, making it accessible for millions of fans, but nearly 10 years later, it’s been supported with a wealth of free content.

It’s no wonder fans are excited for its spiritual successor, from ConcernedApe, The Haunted Chocolatier, which currently has no release date.

Not only is Stardew Valley continually supported with new content from the developer, but the game is also very mod-friendly, so the community is constantly bringing in new DLC for everyone to enjoy.

One such mod, created by Aimon111, takes us to the marshy swamps in ‘Distant Lands - A Small Witch Swamp Expansion’, and best of all, it’s free to download now via Nexusmods.

“A small expansion mod for Stardew Valley,” reads the description of the mod. “This mod changes the look of the vanilla Witch Swamp map, making it look more lively and realistic.”

The expansion adds new quests and events, a goblin NPC, new fish, crops, forage, cooking and crafting recipes and more. Unfortunately, as with all Stardew Valley mods, this one is a PC deal only.

Stardew Valley is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. We'll keep you updated when a release date for The Haunted Chocolatier drops.
