Tyrese Gibson Accidentally Shares Fake 'Morbius' Review From "Martin Scorsese”

Oh dear. Things aren’t going too great for Morbius, are they? The newest instalment of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe wasn’t without its hype - a lot of people had been really looking forward to seeing the Living Vampire brought to screen, but given its Rotten Tomatoes’ critic rating currently stands at an abysmal 16%, yeah, you can see just how well its been going down. 

With that in mind, it goes without saying that positive critic reviews are a bit of a rarity - Observer slated the movie, saying: “Unless your ticket is free, don’t bother. This movie is as lifeless as the bodies Morbius drains and throws on the floor.” So, it’s understandable that the people involved with the film would be excited to see some overwhelmingly positive praise from the acclaimed director Martin Scorsese, right?

Unfortunately, yes, yes they would. As reported by Screen Rant, Tyrese Gibson, who plays Simon Stroud in the movie, very excitedly shared in a since-deleted Instagram post that Scorsese had loved the movie... showing off a quote from a satirical tweet. “Wow wow wow I can’t believe what just happened woah,” Gibson wrote. “Cheers and hats off to you @daniel_espinosa this is so amazing King! This is the KING of KINGS of cinema Martin Scorsese this is huge.”

So, what did the fake review quote actually say? Honestly, it’s pretty amazing that it was even assumed to be real: “I was aghast to find out it was based on a comic book. This is the truest height of cinema and even I cannot top it,” it reads. “A wise man admits when he is wrong and I was wrong, I apologise to all comic book movies.”

Yup, that’s, uh, praise all right. Of course, there’s a chance that Gibson knew it was fake and was sharing it ironically, but given that he’s now deleted the post, that doesn’t seem likely. As Screen Rant note, the joke review is making reference to some comments that Scorsese made a few years ago, in which he slated comic book movies for lacking in substance, which ironically seems to match what’s being said about Morbius quite well. Either way, it’s out in cinemas now, so if you wanna find out if it really does suck (geddit?) then prepare your eyeballs.
